Report: Bugatti’s Chiron could have a top-speed of 290 MPH

in Car Nerd by
Report: Bugatti’s Chiron could have a top-speed of 290 MPH Bugatti’s new Chiron, the successor to the Veyron is no joke and is obviously set out to break some top speed records.

That said, a report from some journalists in the Czech Republic supposedly heard the new Chiron could have a top speed as high as 290 MPH, at a conference for some potential customers in the country.

The top speed is made possible thanks to a fully-updated 8.0L quad-turbocharged W16 with “electrical assistance,” to produce a whopping 1,500hp and 1,500 Nm of torque, or 1,107 lb-ft. In addition to the 290 MPH top speed, a sprint from 0-62 should only take about 2.2 seconds in optimal settings.

Following the conference, around 130 customers sprung for their checkbooks to place an order, apparently.

The Chiron’s life expectancy doesn’t exceed the five year mark, with 100 cars per year being assembled, amounting to about 500 in total with some basic maths. Of course, a ticket of admission into the club of owning what could be the world’s fastest production car, and possibly the most expensive at $ 2.19M USD each. This isn’t factoring the potential cost of the “Targa” version due in 2018 either.

Spy Shots: This picture is the best look at the new Bugatti Chiron yet

Spy Shots: This picture is the best look at the new Bugatti Chiron yet A new spy shot of the highly-anticipated successor to the Bugatti Veyron, the Chiron, surfaced recently and thus, has given us and the world the best preview to the acclaimed hypercar yet.

We already sort of got a solid idea as to what to expect with the new Chiron visually with the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo Concept. But that essentially showed a full-fledged motorsports version of the car for use in videogames (there is a fully-functioning prototype however). This latest pic is of another prototype, though without the intense motorsports bodywork and in a more toned-down version, more accurately portraying the production Chiron better than ever.

Not much is changed, and the Chiron’s overall shape can still be seen, with a lot of the bodywork still carrying over from the Vision Gran Turismo Concept, such as the signature C-shaped B-pillar.

As a refresher, from what we know, the new Bugatti Chiron will get a heavily reworked version of Bugatti’s 8.0L quad-turbo W16 mill, though with electric turbochargers in place of the traditional exhaust-driven snails. An output figure of around 1,500hp is expected with a top speed of around 288 MPH and a 0-60 sprint in less than 2.5 seconds.

Report: The Bugatti Chiron is safe from Volkswagen’s project cuts

in Car Nerd by
Report: The Bugatti Chiron is safe from Volkswagen’s project cuts Volkswagen announced not too long ago to be shelving projects deemed excessive and unnecessary in the near-future amid resource reallocation for damage control amid the recent Dieselgate scandal.

Though for the projects already announced, some have been confirmed to be safe from the cutbacks, one of which was the new Volkswagen Phaeton.

Now, the Jalopnik reports the Bugatti Chiron is also safe from the cutbacks and that Volkswagen confirmed, everything regarding the Chiron will continue as planned.

Details are still sparse, but we’re expecting the new Chiron to be heavily based on the recent Vision Gran Turismo Concept from the Frankfurt Motor Show, complete with its quad-turbocharged 8.0L W16 mill assisted by electric turbos, for an estimated output of around 1,500hp and a top speed in the neighborhood of 280 MPH.

A price point of around $ 2.5 million is expected in order to acquire a Chiron.

Report: The new Bugatti Chiron should sport over 1,480hp and cost 2.2 mil euros

in Car Nerd by
Report: The new Bugatti Chiron should sport over 1,480hp and cost 2.2 mil euros CAR recently received the scoop on the next Bugatti Chiron which they say could have as much as 1,480hp and 1,106 lb-ft of twist. And that’s quite a lot more than the standard Veyron’s original rating of just 1,001hp.

But that’s not all as the estimated power figures should enable the Chiron to get close to the 300 MPH, and we mean, real close, like 288 MPH as its projected top speed. That’s faster than the top speed of most single prop-engine Cessnas.

According to the latest finding, the new Chiron is also estimated to cost around 2.2 million euros when it gets revealed at the Geneva Auto Show next year. That’s close to around $ 2.5 million USD at today’s conversions.

The name still hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Chiron makes sense since it was the name of famed Bugatti racer, Louis Chiron. A total of around 500 Chirons will be built, so if you plan on scooping one up, better get on top of that soon.
