Woman Who Was Called A Monster For Her Head-To-Toe Hairy Moles Might Be The Next Miss Universe

in Design Nerd by

20-year-old Evita Patcey Edgar Delmundo is no stranger to bullying. When she was a child, cruel classmates called her “monster” and “chocolate chip cookie” because of the hairy dark brown moles and birthmarks that cover her entire body, but now the Malaysian, who works part-time at a local cat cafe, is defying the people who taunted her by auditioning for Miss Universe.

“In primary school, no one wanted to be friends with me,” she said. “I remember a teacher having to ask two girls to accompany me during recess, and they were whispering ‘why do we have to treat her like a princess?’ It broke my heart. I told them that they don’t have to follow me and they went off immediately. Basically, I was a lonely girl.”

She told Elle magazine that she learned to accept herself for who she was after attending a church camp when she was 16. “I really learned how to love myself and communicate with others,” said Evita, who had once considered having her moles removed. “This was probably the first time I truly started accepting who I was, how I look.”

Her audition for Miss Universe Malaysia was on June 17, and she’s currently waiting to find out if she’s progressed to the next round or not. But even if she doesn’t succeed, Evita says that it won’t dent her newfound confidence and she’ll continue to enter other beauty pageants in the future. “I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. If I don’t get through, there’s always another platform.” (h/t: dm, elle)

This Cat’s Eyes Have A Whole Universe Inside

in Design Nerd by

This cat will put a spell on you for sure. The kitty’s multi-colored eyes look as if there was a universe hiding in them (and since pretty much everything revolves around cats these days, it wouldn’t be a surprise).

On a more scientific note, sectoral heterochromia is responsible for this magic. It’s a condition when the iris contains two completely different colors in the same area.

If your cat was born with such mesmerising eyes – there’s no need to worry about it, it doesn’t affect your pet’s vision. However, if your cat had normal eyes and later on started to develop heterochromia, it might suggest a disease.

Landing from the Universe by panagiotis laoudikos

This photo is a blending of two shots.. one of the foreground with one minute, 640 ISO, F14 and one of the background with 30 seconds ISO 3200, F2.8. This is the telecommunication radar on the highest (1140 metres) point of Attaviros mountain. When I saw this radar I imagined it like a spaceship that had landed on Mars planet due to red shades of the landscape. I hope you like it. Please view it on black background

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe FINALLY Get Their Big Break

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe FINALLY Get Their Big Break

Ok so that title is absolutely a joke because anyone who has heard Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe play already knew that they were the real deal.  Those of us in the music community are certainly familiar with his music.  But thanks to the television show NCIS New Orleans now so does everyone else.NCIS New Orleans is actually a show that I watch and you can bet I was kind of surprised when I heard a line delivered by agent Christopher LaSalle.  I actually had to rewind it a few times first to make sure I heard it correctly and secondly because it was pretty cool and kind of unexpected.

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe

If you don’t watch the show is set in New Orleans and makes an effort to highlight the history of the city, it’s food and especially it’s music.  There are plenty of scenes in the clubs and there is just about always music being played.

So here’s how it went down.  Agent LaSalle was having a conversation with a sailor about the case they were investigating.  The sailor tells the agent that “I went to the quarter to check out this band Tiny Universe.”  (In my head as the line was delivered I said ‘Oh yeah you did!’).  The response delivered by the agent was a little cheesy but you have to remember it’s aimed at a network TV audience so I’ll cut the writers a little slack.

LaSalle replied to the sailor saying, “Karl Denson. That guy’s the man.”

The band was obviously stoked for the shout out as you can see from the clip posted on their facebook page.  Check it out below.  Keep up the good work Karl!
